Valedictory Dinner Outfit

Today I went shopping for birthday presents for my twin boys who will be turning 20 next Monday.  I cannot believe they will be 20!  While I was at the shopping centre, I happened to buy a few little things for myself.

In particular, I was looking for something to wear to my daughter’s Valedictory dinner tomorrow night.  I rarely buy myself dresses, choosing mostly to wear pants and tops.  However, this is an occasion that really calls for a dress.  I found this Basque dress which I think is in a flattering style – cross over / wrap style at the front.  It’s in black and white which will mean it is very versatile and will allow many different looks to be created dependent on what accessories are put with it.  It also has a bit of a sleeve which I am happy about.  Do you know how hard it is to find a dress with a sleeve?  They are all sleeveless in the shops at the moment!  This is a dress that I will get a lot of use out of!

Thanks to Nikki of Styling You – I am aware that neon and citrus type colours are very in at the moment.  I knew that I had a pair of lime green shoes that have rarely been worn…so I bought a lime green bangle and some lime green earings in case I decide to go with the lime accessories.  I think that a lime green necklace would be too much (overkill).  As the bangle and earrings have a bit of gold in them, I came up with a possible necklace option which is pictured in the collage below.  I’ve also included a picture with some other possible shoe options.  Of course if I go with either of the other shoes, then the lime green accessories may not suit.  Luckily I do have plenty of other earrings, bangles etc to choose from.

What do you think?  Go lime?  Prefer either of the other shoes?  It’s tomorrow night – advice very welcome 🙂

Here is a link to see the dress on-line.  Luckily for me I got it a lot cheaper than the on-line price!

    • Thank you so much Melissa for responding to my twitter call out! 🙂 I’m a bit fashion challenged. I haven’t tried the outfit on with the different shoe options yet. I was a bit worried about the lime shoes because I dont know if the flower bit on them is kinda last year? The black shoes are the most recent purchase so more likely to be the latest fashion. Thanks for your advice! xo

  1. For me personally, I would go with the black shoes but that is mainly because for formal events I generally go with black. I think that the lime accessories and shoes do look good too – go with what you feel comfortable in because there is nothing worse than not being comfortable with how you look when you are out at a function.
Have the best time tonight !!

    • Thank you! I normally always go black too … but was keen to test the waters in case I was becoming a little too boring and unfashionable (highly likely)! I think if the lime shoes were chunkier that would be more in? Not all chunky shoes suit me though as I have tiny feet (size 5-6!). Anyway – looks like the black shoes are the winner!
