General Mish Mash

Around the garden of my childhood home

On Sunday the MinsMash tribe headed over to Mum and Dad’s house, my childhood home.  To my kids, Mum and Dad are known as Granny and Granddad.  We went for lunch to celebrate my Dad’s 82nd birthday which was on Thursday 1 November.  Two of my sisters were also there for lunch.

Interestingly, I’ve never revealed before on my blog that I am the eldest of five siblings.  I have three sisters and one brother!  One sister lives in Sydney and my brother lives in regional Queensland.  The rest of us live here in Brisbane.

Mum served up a beautiful meal of roast lamb and veggies with mint sauce – yum!  This was followed by carrot cake with cream cheese icing – yum again!  I love her chosen adornment for the cake. 🙂

As I’m learning photography, I went for a bit of a wander around taking photographs for practice. All was going well until the camera’s battery ran low and all photographs from then on were blurred so I had to stop.  Never mind, I still managed to get a few nice photo’s!  None of the photo’s have any filters applied to them.

I was really thrilled that there was a nest of baby Currawongs in the big Leopard tree out the back.  You can see some photo’s I took of them in my 365 Grateful – Day 42 photo.  There were many photo’s taken of this nest of baby Currawongs.  It was very hard to choose only some!

After lunch, I wandered out to the front garden and took this photograph of mum’s Hippeastrums.  I think they are beautiful!

I have always loved the front stairs that Dad constructed himself as a young married man.  How clever was he?!  They are made of slate.  As far as photography goes, I’m not sure what professional photographers would make of the pretty colours from the sunlight … but I quite like it! 🙂

I love this pathway of flat rocks surrounded by Gazanias.

It’s amazing how when you get a bit older you appreciate the simple things in life.  As a child, none of what I photographed here would have thrilled me like it does now.  I love nature and plants and landscapes and wildlife.  I’m finding out some things about myself – what fun!

I hope you find something beautiful in these photographs too.

    • Thank you. I go to visit quite frequently but haven’t wandered around taking photographs before so that was fun and they are great to have for the future 🙂

  1. Sounds like you had a lovely time. I’m the same about my childhood home. Would’ve never thought to think anything special of it back then but these days, I take a few photos here and there 🙂

  2. Beautiful photos! I love the steps too. Something like that would just seem so magical to a child I think 🙂
